Press Corporation Promise to Continue Promoting Environmental Sustainability

Press Corporation and Its Group of Companies have promised to continue demonstrating its long term commitment to environmental sustainability, focusing on restoring ecosystems and promoting environmental stewardship within communities and schools.

Speaking during the Press for Nature Awards in Chikwawa, Press Corporation and Its Group of Companies' Representative, Andrew Santhe said people in the country should take full responsibility of taking care of trees as Malawi continues to face a litany of challenges due to careless cutting down of trees.

“As part of reinforcing this commitment, the Press for Nature Awards were introduced to recognize schools and communities that demonstrated exemplary care and responsibility in nurturing the planted trees.

“Mitole primary school received a furnished library stocked with books and learning materials, Chikwawa secondary school was awarded with solar panels installed in one of the classrooms to support extended study hours for learners while Njeleza village received a borehole,” Said Santhe.

He added that the awards were presented to appreciate communities for taking good care of the trees, which have recorded a survival rate of up to 89 percent in Traditional Authority Kasisi in the district.

“Through Press for Nature initiative, Press Corporation and its group of companies are collectively investing in solutions that deliver shared value, strengthening communities, supporting education, improving access to essential resources and safeguarding the environment for future generations,” he said.

Santhe further explained that launched as a two year sustainability programme, Press for Nature saw the planting of 20, 000 trees across selected communities and schools, with a strong emphasis on survival, care and long term impact.

“The initiative aligns with Press Corporations plc’s broader sustainability agenda, recognizing the critical role that environmental conservation plays in supporting livelihoods, climate resilience and sustainable development.

“The PLC family remains committed to building partnerships that enhance tree survival rates, deepen community engagement and ensure that environmental initiatives deliver lasting and measurable impact,” explained Santhe

Principal Forestry Officer for Chikwawa, Hector Mkawihe, said the initiative has played a huge role in encouraging people to understand the importance and benefits of caring for trees after planting.
