Kambala Resigns as UTM Presidential Advisor

Kambala: "I will continue to be the member of the party."

Presidential advisor for the UTM party, Newton Kambala has announced his resignation from the position effective today.

Kambala says the decision has been arrived at after observing that the Presidential advisory council which he was a member of,  has not been effective in advising the party’s President, Dalitso Kabambe, on strategic decisions prior to the general elections.

In a letter addressed to the UTM Secretary General, Willet Karonga the party’s founding member, Newton Kambala says he has decided to step down from his position because the presidential advisory council did not effectively advise the party’s president on strategic decisions prior to the 16 September general election.

Kambala says he feels this is unfair to Kabambe, the party itself and Malawi as an economy.

He confirmed the development to Zodiak.

"The letter is true, I can confirm," said Kambala.

However, UTM party spokesperson, Felix Njawala told us that he was yet to receive the letter from Kambala.

"The letter has been addressed to the President. I have only seen the letter on Social media," said Njawala

Publicity Secretary for the Political Science Association, Mavuto Bamusi says Kambala’s resignation is a signal of an impending leadership crisis in the party.

"This may signal possibility of misunderstanding in the party, I urge the party leadership to do a reflection of the affairs of the party as soon as possible," said Bamusi.

Kambala recently contested for the party president during its elective conference.

Meanwhile the UTM party has announced the dissolution of the party's presidential advisory council.

Its general secretary, Willet Karonga has confirmed the new development noting that the decision has been made by the party president, as part of transitioning into a new phase of governance and organisational alignment within UTM.

"After a period of reflection and consultation, it has been resolved that the Presidential Advisory Council is hereby dissolved with immediate effect. This decision comes as we transition into a new phase of govemance and organizational alignment within UTM, with a renewed focus on efficiency, inclusivity, and forward-looking engagement mechanisms," read part of a letter to all members of the council signed by Karonga.

The presidential advisory council for the UTM consisted members such as former secretary general, Patricia Kaliati and former spokesperson, Joseph Chidanti Malunga.
