Scorchers Set for Friendly Against Morocco

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has earned praise from local sports commentator Christopher Njeula for organizing another high-profile international friendly for the Malawi women’s national football team, the Scorchers.

The Scorchers are scheduled to face Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses on Thursday, 19 June in Casablanca and Njeula has described the match as “an ideal opportunity for the team to test itself against one of Africa’s strongest sides.”

“This is exactly what the Scorchers need ahead of their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.”

“Morocco is a top-tier team and playing them will give our players the exposure and confidence they need before facing Angola,” said Njeula.

In preparation for the friendly, head coach Lovemore Fazili has named a 24-member squad that includes the return of captain Tabitha Chawinga, who missed the recent trip to South Africa while her sister, Temwa who plays for Kansas City Current in the United States will not be available due to club engagements.

Speaking on the upcoming fixture, Fazili said, “We are grateful to FAM for making this match possible. These kinds of games are important for the team’s development and readiness. Morocco is a strong opponent and this match will help us fine tune our tactics and assess the players.”

The Scorchers will face Angola in the WAFCON qualifiers.
