The Volleyball Association of Malawi (VAM) has reaffirmed its commitment to launching a national volleyball league, despite facing significant financial challenges.
The league is expected to feature top clubs from across the country and elevate the sport’s competitive standards.
VAM President James Kaunda revealed that limited resources have slowed down efforts to put in place the necessary structures for the league’s rollout. However, the association remains optimistic and has engaged the corporate sector in search of financial backing.
“We are working hard to make the national league a reality. It’s a crucial step for the development of volleyball in Malawi and will help us build stronger teams for international competitions,” Kaunda said.
The proposed league is expected to offer more game time and consistent competition for local clubs, which currently rely on scattered tournaments and regional events. This, according to Kaunda, will provide a better platform for players to develop their skills and gain exposure.
Kaunda also added that the association is working closely with regional volleyball committees to ensure that once the league is launched, it is inclusive and well-organized.
“We want every region to be represented and to create a system that promotes fair play, professionalism and long-term sustainability,” he added.
